Have you ever thought of having a vacation on Mars or perhaps living there for good? Well, scientists and even corporate giants have already envisioned such plans to set up a permanent human footprint on the red planet. In fact, Japanese construction giant Obayashi Corporation is already ahead in the research and development of a Martian colony.

They projected that the Martian population will reach 500 by the year 2057. By 2090, the population will be 50,000 strong and the Martian economy will make up 5% of the solar system's GDP! So that would mean, Mars will become an interesting tourist destination for humans who may want to try an otherworldly vacation. Interestingly, the company believes that the Martians will declare independence from Earth in 2092, so we still have enough time to pack up and fly over there!

Unlike the Soviet lunar cities, the Martian real estate market will be quite competitive as the entire landscape will be covered with modular space housing populated with astrogeologists, prospectors eager to make a fortune on Martian mineral deposits.

How will a human settlement on Mars look like? Will it be like that of the film "Total Recall," a futuristic space camp from "Star Wars" or just like what we see on the International Space Station?

In the future, people on Earth will inundated with advertising convincing every one to take a luxury cruise on space and consider a holiday vacation on Mars with posters like these. Adventurers may want to climb Mount Olympus, the planet's highest mountain, or go on a honeymoon at Phobos and Deimos, the planet's twin moons.
