Nowadays, modern telecommunications have progressed to the point that we have new versions of our favorite smartphones coming out every few months. Sure, some of us know that Alexander Graham Bell invented the telephone more than a century ago but surprisingly, portable phones were invented few years later as well!

An old British Pathe black-and-white film "Eve's Wireless" has shown two women operating some sort of a portable telephone in New York City in 1922. Mobile technology is not as new as we think and perhaps, some inventors have already envisioned a future where everyone will have their own mobile phone in their pocket.

Interestingly, the women have wrapped a wire unto the fire hydrant that is supposedly give them better signal for them to contact someone. It is more like an early-version of the walkie talkie and were appropriately called as mobile 'wireless.' The umbrella serves as the aerial antenna while the receiver is using a high frequency radio.
