Do you really want to live under the dome? To be honest, it is not ideal because it's just like inside a greenhouse where it becomes a humid and hot mess. But people in the 1960's viewed it as the future way of living because it is supposed to protect us from the snow, rain and cold.

Just like an episode of "Under the Dome" and "The Simpsons," imagine yourself covered by glass above your head. Such obsession of living under a glass dome in those times may not be ideal in Earth conditions but we may need it if we live in the Moon or Mars.

Climate change is the biggest environmental issue that we are facing right now and with the increasing weather disturbances and fluctuating drought patterns, there is a growing demand for a climate-controlled communities. In this case, scientists have envisioned new technologies where we can control all aspect of human living in a petri-dish state.

In 1881, British author William Delisle Hay have envisioned a domed city in his socialist and white supremacist fantasy "Three Hundred Years Hence." In his book, Hay describes a future civilization where most of humanity lives in glass-domed cities beneath the sea thereby allowing the surface of the earth to be used primarily for agriculture. It is likely that we will go this path when our planet's living condition worsens due to climate change.

It is said that Dubai will build the first climate-controlled city on the planet. The area, constructed under a huge glass dome, will accommodate the world's largest shopping center, over 100 hotels, and a wellness district for medical tourists.

As a product of science fiction and futurology, it seems that domed cities will be an essential part of human civilization in the future.
