Let's face it, Stanley Kubrick's vision of our future has been eerily accurate on so many things that we can name it one by one. Although video communication looks rudimentary in the 1960's, it has been viewed as the technology in the future. The proof of concept looks like Skype! Space tourism, tablet computing, and personal TVs embedded into airplane seats also appeared in the film.
