Human Hybridization and the Advent of Embedded Technology (2015)

Man has never been satisfied of his own self and it has always been his nature to be better that everyone else. Civilizations rise and fall because of technological advancement from swords to lasers. The emergence of robotics, artificial intelligence, nanotechnology, wearables and genetic engineering has enabled us to personalize future technology. We are not just wearing it but scientists and other visionary innovators have incorporated these as part of our own body itself!

The future will be dominated by a new trend, the increasing shift to human hybridization with the advancement of embedded technology. Imagine a world where a bio sensor injected as an implant tracks your movements and vital signs. How about a disposable electrocardiogram machine the size of a Band-Aid that monitors a heart patient. There will no longer be a mobile phone as it will be integrated into your face and all you have to do is call someone through voice control and it will be displayed on high definition display that doubles as your contact lens. Scientists and engineers are trying to develop such embedded devices: miniature electronics that plug people into computer and communication networks.

The problem with embedding technology into our body has always remain - where to get power. Well, the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) - the U.S. Department of Defense agency behind technologies that led to the Internet and the Global Positioning System, among other things - launched an Energy Starved Electronics program that aims to power embedded electronics by “scavenging” energy from the human body.

It is likely that world of tomorrow will be increasingly automated and everyone will be doing things in robotic precision as more and more people integrate embedded technology into their own body. Although we have already pacemakers and hearing aids to help people in need. Future embeddables will boost our potential to do things even better and help us control of electronic devices without the need of having gadgets in our hands.

Powered by our own bodies, embedded technology promises not only to provide data wherever and whenever we need it but to transmit real-time data about ourselves. Data analytics collected from our own body will be used in future electronics to automatically adjust to our own "settings." Temperature from our home air-condition system will change depending upon our body condition or food inside the refrigerator will be sorted out automatically to meet our dietary preferences. You don't have to physically line up just to pay what you buy in the supermarket as RFID technology embedded in your body will recognize you and charge your credit card on what you shop.
