Although personal computer was its infancy during this time, it didn't stopped filmmakers from envisioning a world controlled by computers. It is basically the way it is today but we still have to turn off the lights from time to time. Nevertheless, there is a growing trend in home automation wherein everything has to be controlled by a computer so that controlling room temperature and locking doors can be an afterthought. Home automation is not scary thing unless you let artificial intelligence control every aspect of life.
Our future home would revolve around automation but there are things best done by humans - decision-making!
